A centre for the over 50s in Morecambe is reducing its opening hours due to what they describe as a ‘lack of footfall’.
The Rainbow Centre on Clarence Street offers a range of weekly activities run by both volunteer leaders and professional instructors, with a ‘youth club’ feel, aimed at the over 50s.
Users pay an annual membership fee plus a small charge for each activity.
In a statement, the charity said they had taken the decision to close early on Fridays.
A spokesperson said: ‘’Due to a lack of footfall, we have made the decision to reduce our opening hours.
‘’From next week until further notice, we will only be open on Fridays from 9am–1pm.
‘’Our Monday–Thursday opening hours will remain unchanged.
‘’Please continue to pop in, say hello, and support the centre where you can.’’
The Rainbow Centre, which celebrates its 60th birthday in 2027, provides a range of weekly activities run by both volunteer leaders and professional instructors. They do dancing, yoga, Zumba, bowling, card games, photography, glass engraving, art and much more.
The centre is a vibrant and welcoming place and new members are warmly welcomed.
