Runners to take on 30-hour Morecambe Promenade relay for brain tumour research

Runners will be taking part in a 30-hour day-night relay for The Brain Tumour Charity

Runners will pick up the baton to take on a 30 hour day and night relay on Morecambe Promenade for a very good cause.

The team from Let's Run Morecambe and Lancaster Runners, along with other running friends, will embark on the gruelling run this Saturday (August 22) at 9am from the Midland Hotel.

They will then run throughout the day and night until 3pm on Sunday, August 23.

The distance they are aiming to cover is 1407km - the equivalent of from Land's End to John O'Groats, with at least two runners being on the Promenade at all times.

After the runners finish, a Tea Dance, run by the Elizabeth Rogers Dance, will be held at the Midland from 3.30pm to 6:30pm on Sunday.

Tickets available at the Midland Hotel.

Spectators are invited to come along to cheer on the runners.

"We are raising funds for The Brain Tumour Charity in honour of our good friend 'Rachel'," says the Endure Morecambe's 30 Hour Relay and Tea Dance fundraising page.

"Rachel was diagnosed with GBM 4 in 2021. Her life changed overnight.

"After undergoing a craniotomy and 12 months of chemotherapy, the tumour started to grow again in March 2024.

"She's now back on chemotherapy indefinitely and is remaining positive living her life as well as she can.

"In December 2025 after a further recurrence she had more radiotherapy and is now on new treatment supported by research to try and maintain a good quality of life.

"The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading organisation dedicated to brain tumours and is committed to saving and improving lives. They are at the forefront of research, striving to find new treatments while providing essential support for those affected by brain tumours.

"Their work is vital because when someone you love receives a brain tumour diagnosis, every moment counts. They're set on driving urgent change, funding life extending research that Rachel has been directly involved in and benefited from.

"As we run through the night, we aim to raise awareness and generate funding that will keep this crucial research going. We kindly ask you to consider donating anything you can; every little bit helps us move closer to a brighter future for everyone living with a brain tumour. Together, we can make a difference!"
