Tributes have been paid to a Carnforth retained firefighter, who has retired after 15 years of service.
This weekend the crew at the Carnforth station said farewell to Simon Watton, as he handed in his alerter for the final time.
Simon served at Carnforth while being in full-time employment at Booths supermarket and from home.
Retained firefighters carry out their duties in addition to their other employment — which means they can be called on at a moment’s notice to help out in a fire and rescue emergency.
On-call firefighters live and or work within five minutes of the fire station. They dedicate time during their full-time employments and/or free time to respond to incidents from a pager helping others and being part of the community.
Since the news, residents have taken to social media to thank Simon for his hard work.
Debbie Schofield said: ‘’You were such a helpful, cheerful and professional….congratulations on an amazing career.’’
John Burrow wrote: ‘’All the best for the future Simon. You should be proud of your 15 years service to Carnforth Fire Station. Also thank you for being a great work colleague to our Tom during his time when he worked at Booths. Trina & John.’’
Tommy Michael added: ‘’Absolute legend. All the best Si!’’
There’s an opportunity to join the Carnforth crew as an on-call firefighter.
If you think you could you wear the uniform, respond from a pager, be part of a team and earn around £4500 per year (depending on hours of contract), then apply here
Application close at June 30th.
