Adventurers prepare for Lancaster hospice China fundraising trek to celebrate 40th anniversary

After almost two years of training and fundraising, 82 intrepid Lancaster trekkers are counting down the days until they leave for an adventure of a lifetime.

The group will shortly depart for their trek of The Great Wall of China, as part of St John’s Hospice’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

Between them, so far they have raised an amazing £240,000 for hospice care, of a target of a quarter of a million pounds.

The Far East in an adventure of a lifetime will be the 8th St John’s Hospice trek and the 10th year of fundraising trekking carried out by the charity, returning to The Great Wall of China, the site of the organisation's first ever trek, first visited in 2016.

The event will take place between September 5-13.

In 2016, 31 intrepid supporters walked the Great Wall over ten days, raising in excess of £100,000 for St John’s.

In 2024, supporters returned from a never-to-be-forgotten trek across the Himalayas to raise £166,000 for the hospice, on a trip which included a climb to peaks of 2875m in the stunning surroundings of the Indian foothills.

The team ended their trip with a visit to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal mausoleum in Agra.
