Lancaster and Morecambe College will host a special one night, pop-up event in collaboration with a popular Lancashire restaurant.
The event on January 20 will see the team from Aven Restaurant in Preston work alongside students from the LMC’s Bay School of Hospitality, to deliver a multi-course tasting menu, prepared and served within the College’s professional kitchens.
The collaboration forms part of an ongoing initiative by Lancaster & Morecambe College to invite some of the North West’s leading restaurants to work directly with students, providing hands-on experience of professional kitchens and service at the highest level.
Over the past 24 months, the Hospitality and Catering department at Lancaster and Morecambe College has experienced significant growth, with student numbers more than doubling, highlighting a renewed interest in hospitality as a progressive and sustainable career choice amongst young people in Lancashire.
LMC’s Employer Engagement Lead for Hospitality, Emma Dennison, said: “Offering our students the opportunity to work alongside industry specialists is crucial for their vocational development and is one of the reasons we have seen significant increases in recruitment to our culinary courses.
‘’Aven are an exceptional team who are passionate about supporting the next generation of hospitality experts, and we are looking forward to building on this partnership over the coming months.”
The Aven team on the night will include Chef Director Oli Martin, alongside Aven Head Chef Sean Wrest, working closely with students throughout service to deliver the event.
All proceeds from the pop-up will be donated to the LMC Kitchen Collective; a group of highly motivated students within the hospitality department who go above and beyond in their commitment to a career in the industry.
Funds raised will be used to support an educational food-focused trip, allowing students to visit and experience some of the region’s leading restaurants.
Speaking ahead of the event, Sean Wrest said: “Events like this are incredibly important, not just for the students involved but for the future of the industry as a whole. Shining a light on college hospitality departments, and the work they’re doing, is vital to the future of true Northern hospitality.
‘’Hospitality education plays a crucial role in the survival of our industry, and the passion we see from the Kitchen Collective at Lancaster & Morecambe College is a clear sign that hospitality is thriving. Young people absolutely still see this as a progressive, creative, and rewarding career path.”
This pop-up marks the first of several planned collaborations between Lancaster & Morecambe College and Northern Dining Group over the next 12 months, with further student-led and community focused events already in development.
