Be a firefighter - 'Come & have a go!'

If you want to be a firefighter, 'come and have a go' - that's the message from Lancashire Fire & Rescue service with their latest recruitment drive.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is looking to recruit new whole-time firefighters and are taking the challenge out to the people. Raising public awareness and generating good public engagement can be a bit of a challenge, so this time, instead of inviting people to the station to get a feel for what we do, we have decided to hit the road.

Group Manager Liam Wilson said, "Instead of inviting people to the station to run through some drills, we decided to visit a number of community venues to show people what we do and how we do it”.    

The crews will be taking their roadshow to several venues around Lancashire including:

Saturday 11th September - 12.30 - 3.30pm @ Nelson and Colne College, BB9 7YT

Sunday 12th September – 1.30 - 4.30pm @ Pendle Leisure Centre, BB8 9NP

*LOCAL* Saturday 18th September – 9.30am - 12.30pm @ Central Lancs High School, LA1 3LS

Saturday 25th September – 1.30 - 4.30pm @ Nelson Fire Station, BB9 7QH

Sunday 26th September – 1.30 - 4.30pm @ Sprit or Sport, Burnley, BB10 3AA

Sunday 3rd October – 9.30am - 12.30pm @ LFRS Training Centre, Chorley, PR7 6DH

Saturday 9th October – 12.30 - 3.30pm @ Nelson & Colne College Sports Centre, BB9 7YT

Sunday 10th October - 9.30am - 12.30pm @ Preston College Sports Centre, PR2 8UR

Saturday 16th October – 2.30 - 4.30pm @ Audley Sports Centre, BB1 1DW

Sunday 17th October – 2.30 - 4.30pm @ Witton Park Sports Centre, BB2 2TP

Saturday 23rd October – 9.30am - 1pm @ Blackpool Sports Centre, FY3 9HQ

Sunday 24th October 9.30am - 1pm @ Blackpool Sports Centre, FY3 9HQ

Saturday 30th October – 9.30am - 12.30pm @ LFRS Training Centre, Chorley, PR7 6DH

 

These dates take the crews up to the recruitment window opening on 1st November.

 

Group Manager Wilson, who's also been heavily involved in bringing these events to fruition said: "We're hoping to use this opportunity to engage with people across the county and show them what the role of a modern firefighter involves. This includes the operational and preventative activities that we undertake. During the Have a Go events, we will be looking to carry out some of the activities that people can expect to do as part of the recruitment course, such as hose running, equipment carrying and dummy dragging as well as the more light-hearted 30 second fire kit challenge, which usually generate a competitive spirit and more than a few laughs”.
