A week-long celebration of community action on climate change is coming to Carnforth.
Carnforth Town Council will be officially supporting the Great Big Green Week running from September 24 to October 2.
The full programme for the week is being put together but already confirmed is the Carnforth Great Big Green Day on Saturday September 24 at Crag Bank Village Hall from 10am.
This will be a celebration of what action the Carnforth community is taking to protect our planet, parks and green spaces.
You will hear how the Carnforth Neighbourhood Plan, now in its final stages and one of the first in the country to be carbon neutral, focuses on improving air quality and traffic control, protecting our environment and promoting sustainable, affordable and self-sufficient housing.
You can find out about the electric car sharing scheme - jointly developed by Lancashire County, Lancaster City and Carnforth Town Councils that will be launched soon and the children (and their adults) will get the opportunity to look at a range of electric vehicles including an all-electric refuse collection vehicle.
There will be also be an opportunity to hear what volunteer and community groups are doing to enhance our local environment and how you can get involved.
On Thursday September 29, Carnforth Town Council will be hosting the Carnforth Great Big Clean-Up, including litter picking and weed clearance.
The council is encouraging as many people as possible to go to the War Memorial Gardens, Market Street at 10am to spend a couple of hours on the big clean-up.
Everyone taking part will be awarded with a drink and a piece of cake.
On an afternoon, to be confirmed, there will be a guided visit to the Halton Lune Hydro, including a walk down the river track to learn about ‘fish health checks’, how debris is removed from the river and the hydro and solar system that feeds a micro grid.
Carnforth Town Council would also like to hear from anyone who can pledge a 'random act of greenness' to reduce their impact on the environment either as a one-off during the Great Big Green Week, or as part of a permanent lifestyle change.
Councillor Malcolm Watkins, who is leading the project said: "The Great Big Green Week is an opportunity to show our local and national leaders that we care about the environment and tackling climate change.
"For the next generation to have the future we want and they deserve, we have a duty to tackle the climate crisis and protect nature today. This week of events will celebrate how the Carnforth community is working together to create meaningful change."

Please email Leah: admin@carnforthtowncouncil.org with your ‘greenness’ pledge and these will be profiled in a future edition of the bi-monthly town council newsletter Carnforth Express.
