The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary has been given a significant boost after a year-long programme of fundraising driven by the former Captain and Lady Captain of a local golf club.
Silverdale Golf Club raised £7,000 for the Bay Hospitals Charity, with £6,436 raised through events and activities and the final figure increased to £7,000 thanks to a personal donation from Club President Keith Cordukes.
Fundraising took place across the year and brought together members from all sections of the club.
A wide range of activities helped build the total, including raffles, competitions, an auction and individual donations, alongside special events that drew strong support from both the Ladies’ Section and the Gents Winter League.
One of the highlights was a fashion show hosted by local boutique Kitty Brown, with ticket sales and a percentage of merchandise sold on the night contributing a substantial sum.
The Neonatal Unit was chosen as the club’s charity for the year due to its importance to local families and the exceptional care provided to babies and parents at some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
For some fundraisers, including Paul Bowman and his wife Karen, the cause was particularly close to home, having personally benefitted from the skilled and compassionate support of the Neonatal Team.
Paul Bowman, Past Captain of Silverdale Golf Club, said: “This has been a truly special year for our club. My thanks to all our members and friends and to Bev our former Lady Captain for agreeing to raise money for such a special cause which is close to my heart.
“The level of support and generosity from our members has been phenomenal and everyone threw themselves into fundraising with real enthusiasm.
‘’The Neonatal Unit means so much to families across our area and knowing that this money will help support babies and parents when they need it most makes us incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”
Judith Read, Charity Manager at Bay Hospitals Charity, thanked everyone at Silverdale Golf Club for their dedication and generosity,
Judith said: “This amazing donation will make a real and lasting difference for babies and families cared for on the unit. Donations such as this one play a vital role in ensuring families using the Neonatal Unit receive added comfort and support during an understandably difficult time. Those involved in the fundraising have said they are immensely proud of the club’s collective efforts and look forward to seeing the positive impact this remarkable community support will have.”
Bay Hospitals Charity works in partnership with University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) to fund enhancements that go beyond core NHS provision, helping to improve environments, provide specialist equipment and support staff in delivering the best possible care.
