A volunteer for a cat rescue charity has spoken out after a vital donations trolley was removed from a Lancaster supermarket.
Fay Gregory, donations collector at Lancaster and Morecambe Cat Rescue, said the charity was reliant on local people popping cat or kitten food in the trolley at Asda on Ovangle Road.
But, she said, the trolley has now been taken away by the supermarket chain without the charity being notified.
Asda said they had spoken to a Lancaster and Morecambe Cat Rescue rep to let them know, and that their policy is to rotate collection trolleys for different charities to ensure "a fair balance".
Fay said: "On behalf of the charity we are disappointed with the way we have been treated.
"We are totally reliant on the townsfolk of Morecambe and Lancaster popping a box of cat or kitten food in the donations trolley when they can.
"We aren't a big charity. We were completely kept in the dark about this. There has been no contact from Asda. I only found out when I turned up to collect the donations. It's not inclusive or fair.
"Supporters of our charity are absolutely disgusted by this and are complaining to Asda."
An Asda spokesperson said: "We support a wide range of local community groups and charities throughout the year, rotating collections to ensure a fair balance across initiatives.
"The Lancaster store has limited space for donation trolleys and needed to make room for their next project, a children’s book project collection, which is part of a campaign to collect one million books by World Book Day as part of the National Year of Reading 2026.
"I believe the store communicated this directly to a representative from the group."
Lancaster and Morecambe Cat Rescue provides love, care, and second chances to cats in need.
Their mission is to promote humane treatment, rehoming, and public education to ensure every cat finds a safe and loving home.
