"Deep concerns" remain about plans to close one of the last remaining banks in Morecambe.
The Halifax in the Arndale shopping centre will shut on September 15, leaving the Nationwide branch on Euston Road as the only bank/building society left in the town centre.
Morecambe town councillors spoke out about the issue at a recent meeting held at the town hall.
They unanimously agreed to write to Halifax "highlighting how important this service is to the people of Morecambe, especially residents who may be digitally excluded, disabled, or elderly".
A motion was proposed by Councillor David Whitaker, saying the council was "deeply concerned about the announced closure of the Halifax".
"The Halifax is one of the last remaining banks in Morecambe providing a service to customers who might require in-person financial advice.
"Many people will be concerned about the loss of this facility so therefore it is important as a town council we send a letter to The Halifax headquarters, copied to Lizzi Collinge MP asking that they reconsider this closure, highlighting how important this service is to the people of Morecambe, especially residents who may be digitally excluded, disabled, or elderly."

It was announced last September that the branch would shut in January 2025, but was then given a stay of execution until September 15..
The closure is one of many across the country.
Halifax said that 46 per cent of its customers have been using other Halifax branches during the year ending April 2024, with 74 per cent using other branches or online banking or phone banking in the six months up to April 2024,
A total of 665 customers transacted at the counter or Immediate Deposit Machine (IDM) four months out of six up to April 2024.
A statement from Halifax said: "Before we close any branch, we look at how our customers are managing their money and using the branch.
"Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, online banking or calling us instead. This means they are using branches, including our Morecambe branch much less.
"Because of this, we'll be closing our Morecambe branch."
They said that staff will support customers to get started with the mobile banking app and online banking.
The nearest remaining Halifax branch will be in Penny Street, Lancaster. Customers are being encouraged to use other nearby services including Morecambe Post Office or the cash machine outside Nationwide on Euston Road.
Nationwide will be the one remaining bank or building society branch left in Morecambe town centre, following closures of others including TSB, HSBC, Nat West, Barclays and Santander in recent years.
Last September, Link announced plans to open a new banking hub in Morecambe.
Banking hubs are shared spaces where personal and business customers can access basic banking services and access to cash. The hubs have a traditional counter service operated by the Post Office, and community bankers from nine major high street banks operate on a rotating basis to provide support on more specific matters in a private space. Deposit services also provide small businesses with a facility to access and pay in notes and coins.
