A generous donation has helped a Lancaster school uniform project to continue to make a meaningful difference to local families.
The Friends of Skerton St Lukes Primary School have been able to build a dedicated storage shed thanks to a recent grant from the 3R Foundation & Charity Shop in Carnforth.
The money has also helped the Friends to install shelving and purchase sturdy storage boxes for their preloved school uniform project.
They said the investment "has transformed what was once a small, informal idea into a well-organised and accessible resource for our families".
"The preloved uniform project plays a vital role in supporting our school community," said a spokesperson for the Friends.
"With the rising cost of living, many families are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the ongoing expense of school uniforms, particularly as children grow so quickly.
"By offering good-quality, donated uniform items at little or no cost, we help to ease this financial pressure and ensure that every child can come to school feeling comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.
"Beyond the financial benefits, the project also fosters a strong sense of community. It encourages families to support one another through donations and reuse, while teaching our pupils the value of sustainability and reducing waste. Items that might otherwise go unused are given a second life, helping both families and the environment.
"The new storage facilities mean we can now organise donations more effectively, maintain quality, and ensure that uniforms are available year-round, rather than just at peak times. It also allows us to expand the project and reach even more families who may benefit.
"We are incredibly grateful for the funding that has made this possible, and for the ongoing generosity of our school community. This project is a clear example of what can be achieved when people come together to support one another.
"We would also warmly encourage local families and businesses to support the project by donating any preloved school uniform items that are still in good condition.
"Donations can be easily dropped off at the school office, where they will be sorted and made available to other families. This simple act of generosity can make a real difference to others in our community."
The 3R Foundation Charity Shop, located on Lancaster Road in Carnforth, opened in February 2023 and raises funds by encouraging people to Recycle, Reuse and Rehome (3R) their unwanted items.
Donations are resold through the shop, with all profits used to provide grants to grassroots organisations and projects that benefit the local community.
