An event where people can find out more about plans for a new banking hub in Morecambe has been announced.
Cash Access UK is running the drop-in session at Bare Village Club on Bare Lane on Thursday March 6 from 10am to 1pm.
This is so residents can find out more about plans for a new shared banking space, due to open in Morecambe in September.
Hubs offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday.
The hubs also offer a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated banking issues.
A Morecambe Town Council spokesperson said: "We’ve had a lot of bad news about bank branches closing over the past few months, but we’re pleased to share that plans for a Banking Hub in Morecambe are now gathering pace, with Cash Access UK hosting a drop-in session all about Banking Hubs at Bare Village Club next month.
"If you want to find out what a Banking Hub is, how it works, and the services it will provide, drop in between 10am on 1pm on Thursday 6 March for a coffee and a chat.
"We’re aware that this information will likely be of greatest value to people that are not necessarily on social media or online, so please do share this information as widely as possible, particularly with any friends or relatives that may benefit from finding out more."
Cash Access UK is the organisation responsible for setting up banking hubs around the country.
A property search is currently under way to find a location for the hub in Morecambe.
“Setting up a banking hub can take up to 12 months from start to finish but plans for the hub in Morecambe are progressing well," said a spokesperson for Cash Access UK.
"We are aware the Halifax in Morecambe is set to close in September and we can assure the local community that they will not be left without services.
"Residents can find updates on the progress of our work on the Cash Access UK website, and we look forward to sharing some positive news on plans for the banking hub soon.”
Available services will be to:
- pay in cash (notes and coin) and cheques
- withdraw cash (notes and coin)
- check your balance
- pay utility bills
- top up your gas and electricity
- access change-giving services (for registered businesses)
Cash Access UK said they will be able to say nearer the time which banks will provide a community banker.
