A popular music venue in Lancaster has announced it will close in its current location at the end of the year.
Kanteena has announced plans for 'The Final Chapter' at its home on Brewery Lane.
The venue has been open for six years and has gained a large following for its mix of live music, arts, markets and street food.
It describes itself as "an ever changing, forward thinking event space welcoming acts, people, food, drink and dogs from all over the world".
Kanteena announced the closure news on its social media pages on Monday, with this statement:
"When we began building Kanteena at Brewery Lane six years ago, we always knew it was meant to be temporary.
"At the time, we expected to be here for no more than three years.
"As it stands, the notice we’ve been given is that this New Year's Eve (no sooner) will be our last night of Kanteena at Brewery Lane.
"Just to be clear. There is no drama. No one is ill. There are no financial issues and no secrets or scams.
"Our landlords have been brilliant throughout. Honouring every promise, including giving us plenty of time to wrap things up properly.
"We’ve had an amazing six years here, and we’re not slowing down now. Not a chance!
"We’re still booking acts right through to the end of the year and organising an epic farewell party for New Year’s Eve.
"We want the best for Lancaster. What a place! The great people we’ve met on this journey, and we’re determined to give you all a good time until we close.
"As for what comes next—plans are 'brewing', but nothing’s set in stone just yet.
"We'd love to stay, but when your time’s up, your time’s up.
"This place would be nothing without the public, the community we have all built….
"Big thanks to all the team who make this chaos possible and the guard dogs for keeping the place safe!!
"Thanks to you all for supporting us. It’s always amazed us how often people come in. You really set the tone!! You make it happen.
"Here’s to one final season at Brewery Lane— Let's make it count."
Many fans of Kanteena posted on Facebook in response.
Richard said: "Lancaster needs Kanteena. There is no alternative that puts on the type of gigs and nights you do.
"From big name sellout nights to underground acts playing upstairs. Lancaster was missing this before you opened and needs this.
"I have everything crossed for a resurrection next year somewhere and wish you all the best for the future. Kanteena, we need ya!"
Dave said: "Really, really, really, really hope this isn't the end and that you find another place. You are lucky to have this space Lancaster!
"Big love and see you soon to help you say farewell."
And Amy said: "Such a shame to see Kanteena close. So many good bands, acts, DJs, fab nights, friends made and memories to last a lifetime!! Lancaster just won’t be the same!!"
"Massive thanks to Pablo and the team."
Major names to perform at Kanteena over the past few years have included Bez, Space, Bad Manners, Electric Six, The Bluetones and Artful Dodger.
The venue has also been a major part of Lancaster Music Festival.
Upcoming gigs include tributes to The Stone Roses and Paul Weller, an appearance by Radio 2 soul DJ Trevor Nelson, and 90s band Dodgy.
