Free public WiFi using the latest available technology is coming to Morecambe Promenade, it's been announced.
The new smart Wifi network will use Wifi 7, which has been described as the most powerful Wifi ever.
The scheme will begin in the next couple of months and will be delivered by a partnership of Morecambe BID (Business Improvement District), Lancaster City Council and the Morecambe Bay Poverty Truth Commission, and funded by Visa.
Morecambe BID said the network will cover right the way along the Promenade including the West End,
"Morecambe BID has gone all out with the absolute best we can to support this public WiFi project," said David Waddington, chair of Morecambe BID.
"This will help events up and down the town throughout the year, as well as all of our visitors.
"We're using absolutely the latest technology, and in the next quarter we'll have free WiFi up and down the Promenade, which will also encompass the Eden site as it opens in autumn."
Phil Sykes, facilitator of the Morecambe Bay Poverty Truth Commission, said the new network marks a "huge milestone" and will connect "a digital corridor stretching all the way to the West End of Morecambe".
"We're going to eradicate digital exclusion in the area which has been a really difficult issue in accessing healthcare, accessing jobs and employment and basic services," said Mr Sykes.
"It's going to be a huge, huge benefit to people in this area."
Top IT company HP has described Wifi7 as "a game-changing advancement that will usher in whole new ways of using the internet for gaming, business, and home use".
It says Wifi 7 will supply speeds four times faster than WiFi 6, up to a blistering 46 Gbp.
