Highest Point 'Lancaster Rocks' night cancelled due to thunderstorms warning

The Lancaster Rocks music night - which was due to take place tonight (Sunday) in Lancaster’s Williamson Park as the finale to Highest Point festival - has been cancelled due a Met Office weather warning.

Today's Big Family Day Out will go ahead but will finish at 4pm as a result of the warning.

The decision was taken by a multi-agency group including the event safety team and Lancaster City Council.

Thunder and lightning is forecast for the event site this evening, as well as heavy rain. The unpredictability of the sudden change in weather could cause surface water flooding and other hazards.

Event organiser Rich Dyer said: “After such a great weekend of weather in Williamson Park we really weren’t expecting a thunderstorm.

“We’re disappointed to have to cancel Lancaster Rocks but safety is paramount.”

Will Griffith, Chief Officer for Environment and Place at Lancaster City Council, said: “We fully support the event organisers’ decision to cancel the Lancaster Rocks event at Williamson Park due to the forecast adverse weather.

“The safety of our residents is of the utmost importance, and given the advice from the Met Office National Severe Weather Warning Service, this decision was unavoidable.

“We appreciate this decision will be disappointing to those who would have attended, but safety must take priority.”

All ticket holders will be receive automatic refunds.
