Lancashire Police say dedicated resources are being deployed both locally and across the county ahead of bikers heading to Heysham Port for the Isle of Man TT Races.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) are actively patrolling key routes taken by bikers heading to the event, focusing on reducing road-related risks and tackling dangerous and unlawful behaviour.
Alongside this activity, Neighbourhood Policing Teams in Lancaster and Morecambe are out in the community providing proactive crime prevention advice. With an influx of visitors and motorcycles in the area, officers are urging owners to take simple but effective steps to protect their vehicles from theft or damage.
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant, Rebecca Hamlett, said: “Once again we will be providing a high-visibility presence in the area whilst motorbike enthusiasts pass through.
“We always look forward to welcoming visitors to the area and will continue to work with partners to ensure motorists have a smooth journey over to the Isle of Man.
“Whilst we do our job, visitors have an important role to play in ensuring their property is protected. You can minimise the risk of harm to your property by: locking up bikes with quality chains/ locks; making use of alarms; considering the use of a tracking device; parking in well-lit areas covered by CCTV and using a bike cover.”
Lancashire Police are also working closely with Merseyside Police and Isle of Man Constabulary.
Specialist Operations Chief Inspector, John Jennings-Wharton, added: “The Roads Policing Team will be ensuring that motorists on Lancashire’s roads drive with due care and attention.
“It is important to remember the Fatal Five: speeding, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, and careless or dangerous driving.
‘’All of these factors can increase the risk of serious and fatal collisions, and officers will be taking firm action against anyone who decides to flout the law on our roads.”
To report criminal activity to Lancashire Police, call 101 or report online. In an emergency, call 999.
