A Lancaster-based cancer charity has launched a new scheme putting supporters in control of how donations are spent.
CancerCare North Lancashire & South Cumbria launched Count On Me, an initiative that allows monthly donors to choose where their donations go.
With Count On Me, supporters can have a say over where their contribution will make the greatest difference.
CancerCare supports people affected by cancer and bereavement.
When donors sign up to give monthly, they can choose to either Support a Service - choosing a specific CancerCare service to support, helping local people access the right care at the right time; or Provide Essentials: helping to cover the day-to-day costs of running CancerCare’s centres, so the charity can keep its doors open and services running smoothly, or Where It’s Needed Most - making a monthly donation and allow CancerCare to direct support to where the need is greatest.
Jenny Thistlethwaite, a former CancerCare client, said: “When I came to CancerCare after my cancer diagnosis, I was grateful to benefit from a course of aromatherapy massage sessions.
"The service was exceptional, and the charity is so welcoming, friendly and supportive.
"Aromatherapy gave me time each week to truly relax, switch off and take time for myself during a very challenging period in my life. After finishing my sessions, I continued to volunteer at CancerCare’s Kendal Centre.
“Through Count On Me, I choose to direct my monthly donation towards the aromatherapy service to help ensure others can experience the same benefits it gave me.
“Count On Me is a great initiative that enables donors to have a say in where their money goes. CancerCare feels like one big family once you’ve been part of it, so this allows me to feel even closer to the cause and more involved in the future of this essential organisation.”
Claire Mason, CancerCare's head of fundraising and marketing, said: “We are so excited to launch Count On Me, an initiative that will help us build stronger, more transparent relationships with our amazing supporters.
“By giving people a say in how their donation is used, we’re empowering them to support the areas that matter most to them, while also helping CancerCare plan ahead and sustain vital services for our communities.
“Whether you can give £1, £10 or £100 per month, it all makes a difference, and we’re so grateful to everyone who chooses to support CancerCare.”
