A famous 130-year-old Lancaster sports event is back for 2024.
Lancaster City Football Club is reviving the famous Easter Field Festival, giving hundreds of schoolchildren the opportunity to take part in this historic event once again.
Last year, Lancaster City and Dollies in the Community announced the revival of the much-loved and fondly remembered Easter Field event. First held in 1892 at the Giant Axe - Lancaster City’s football ground - the event was the brainchild of philanthropist and former Mayor, William Smith.
Led by Lancaster City Director Dave Evans, Easter Field 2023 returned on Easter Monday, and featured twenty-two teams from Lancaster and Morecambe and the surrounding district attended along with hundreds of supporters, family members, sponsors and club officials.
St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School were runners-up in both primary school competitions, losing on penalties after a goalless draw with Lancaster Road in the girls category and the boys lost 1-0 in a very competitive game against Moorside.
That sentiment remains this time around, as the club looks forward to hosting another superb occasion.
Director James Cummiskey is heading up this year’s event and said: “I want to express the profound significance of hosting our annual Easter Field Tournament.
