Prostate cancer tests will be available at Lancaster City FC’s The Giant Axe tomorrow (Saturday May 13).
The tests will take place at the club's Giant Axe ground on Saturday May 13 between 11am and 3pm.
They are part of the The Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal (BKPCA) and have been organised as part of the Dollies in the Community programme.
Lancaster City assistant manager Graham Lancashire, a patron of the BKPCA, said: “As I am a trustee of this fantastic charity I urge all supporters and friends over the age of 40, if there is a history of cancers in the family, to book on and get tested. These events are saving lives.”
Since the first testing event on behalf of The Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal in 2016, over 10,000 men have been tested and 10% of those had a raised PSA level, which could be a sign of prostate cancer.
It can also be a sign of other conditions that are not cancer, including an enlarged prostate or urinary tract infection.
The Dolly Blues join a number of EFL clubs that are using their stadiums as bases for the tests that are part of the The Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal, including Burnley, Charlton Athletic and Carlisle United.
Eighty test places have been allocated to The Giant Axe. Those being tested will be asked for a donation of £10 on the day to go towards the cost of the test, which is £25.
They involve a pain-free blood test.
Dave Evans, club director and head of Dollies in the Community, said: "We are delighted to be able to host this event.
"Here at the club, we know how important it is for people to check themselves, get tested, and set aside any fears they have to look after themselves. If having this testing facility here helps with that, then that’s just fantastic.
“Cancer in all its forms can go unnoticed for weeks, months, even years in some cases, and prostate cancer is so much easier to treat if men catch it early.
“We hope people make use of it, getting tested really can save lives."
