A Lancaster pensioner suffered broken bones after being beaten unconscious by a gang of youths.
The victim, a man in his late 60s, was disturbed by banging at his door in Shakespeare Road and saw a group of youth laughing at him and standing by his car.
The man went outside to follow them and was attacked by the gang who beat him with sticks and pieces of wood.
He was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken nose, broken hand, a tooth missing and numerous cuts.
The assault happened on Barley Cop Lane at about 6pm last night (Sunday, January 11) and involved a group of around eight youths.
Det Insp Ian Zanelli, of Lancaster CID, said: “This assault was completely unprovoked and has left an elderly man with some serious injuries.
“We are making a number of enquiries to try and identify those involved and I would appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward. You may have seen what happened or you may have footage such as CCTV or Ring doorbell. If so, please contact us.”
