Police in Lancaster are warning motorists to be vigilant after a rise in the theft of catalytic converters.
A catalytic converter is an exhaust emission control device that converts toxic gases in exhaust gas into less-toxic pollutants.
PCSO Martin Miller is encouraging people to take extra care.
‘’There has been a marked increase in thefts of catalytic converters in the Lancaster area’’ he said.
‘’Thieves are targeting vehicles during the day and night.
‘’They are jacking vehicles up and using cutting equipment to remove them. This process only takes a couple of minutes.
‘’Please be vigilant and call us if you witness this type of activity.
‘’Also try to take note of any registration plates of vehicles the offenders may be using.’’
