LISTEN: New relaxed group for adults with ADHD formed in Lancaster

Nick Rosser

A social group giving people with ADHD a 'life break' has been set up in Lancaster.

'Basically What Happened Was ADHD' has been founded by Nick Rosser, with regular drop-in sessions at St John's Hospice.

The group is designed to help adults with ADHD - or affected by ADHD or other diverse brain functions - to meet like minded people.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a condition where the brain works differently to most people. If you have ADHD, you may have trouble with things like concentrating and sitting still.

Symptoms of ADHD involve ability to pay attention to things, having high energy levels and ability to control impulses.

Nick Rosser spoke to Steve Haworth from Beyond Radio about the group

"I was diagnosed when I was around 20," said Nick.

"For most of that time I didn't know anyone else with ADHD. I've formed this group to try to combat the isolation that comes with that.

"We try to keep it relaxed, there is no formal structure.

"This isn't a formal support group. It's creating a relaxed space, like a life break.

"You can pop in, vent a load of stuff that's been going on in your life. There's no expectations. It's a quiet space.

"I've found that people who are coming after often quite lost, traumatised, confused, quite lonely.

"People leave feeling that much better. Not much has necessarily changed but it's just that little break, to reset and quiet your brain."

Nick said there is no pressure to talk at the group, and people can stay for five minutes or the full two hours.

Meetings are on Tuesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am at the hospice on Slyne Road.
