A marathon fundraiser will be held to raise money for a charity after a popular Morecambe businessman was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The event at Fitness Formation in Lancaster on Saturday January 31 will raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.
Alan Lingwood Jnr from Heysham-based security firm Lingwood Security Management has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The gym based at North Road, Lancaster, will host an all-day challenge where 16 treadmills will be running throughout the day, with each treadmill completing a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles (or 42,195m).
This is a shared team effort, meaning no one is expected to complete a marathon on their own unless they want to.
Participants will rotate on and off the treadmills, contributing in whatever way they can, even if it's just to walk for a minute.
"The aim is simple, raise awareness, encourage early testing, and bring people together for a cause that affects so many families," said a post on the Lingwood Security Management page.
"The day will be open to everyone, with refreshments available, family-friendly plans, raffles, and a positive atmosphere throughout. You don’t have to run to be involved. You can walk, cheer, support, donate, or simply show up.
"We’re honoured to support this event alongside other local sponsors and the team at Fitness Formation.
"A huge thank you to the event sponsors supporting the day: Ike Eastwood, Surge Volt Electrical; Tom Beanlands, Rhino Specialist Cleaning Ltd; Bronte Archer, Archer & Co Foot Health and SDJ Events.
"If you’d like to donate raffle prizes or support the event, all contributions are very welcome."
To keep the energy high all day, DJ Summer Jenkins and her team will provide music from start to finish to keep everyone moving, smiling, and connected throughout the challenge. The DJ line-up will be:
Kevin Helm and Aaron Giles 10am to noon
Summer Jenkins Noon to 1pm
Matt Turner 1pm to 2pm
Kaitzy 2pm to 3pm
Summer Jenkins and Kaitzy 3pm to 4pm
There will be free refreshments available all day for participants and supporters, and children's entertainment is also being planned.
The entire event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, will be professionally documented by two of the best fitness videographers and photographers in the UK.
"Once the final mile is completed, we will be heading out that evening to celebrate together and mark what we have achieved as a community," says the fundraising page.
"This event is about awareness, support, and coming together for a cause that affects far too many people.
"Whether you are taking part on the treadmills, cheering from the sidelines, bringing your family, or simply stopping by to donate and show support, you are welcome."
