Officials from Morecambe BID says they’ve received numerous reports about children climbing onto rooftops of local buildings.
Bosses at the town's Business Improvement District say they’ve had reports of children climbing on rooftops around Pedder St, Queen St, Deansgate, Lines Street, and even the public toilets on the prom near the play park.
They’ve issued a statement asking parents to do more to help them stay safe while playing outside.
In a post on social media, they said: ‘’While it might seem like fun at the time, we’re pretty sure it’s not going to feel as exciting when someone’s hanging out over the edge of a building by their fingernails.
‘’Now, we might not live in the 80s anymore, but we’re asking for your support. Please have a chat with the kids about staying safe and respecting the spaces that make Morecambe special.
‘’Rooftops are for seagulls, not kids!
‘’Not only is all this climbing causing damage to businesses and community facilities, but the risk of someone getting seriously hurt is very real.
‘’We want all our young residents to enjoy Morecambe safely, and if they’re looking for adventure, we’re sure there are healthier and safer ways to do it.
‘’Thanks for spreading the word and helping us look out for one another. Together, we can keep Morecambe the amazing, safe, and welcoming community we all know and love.’’
