The Morecambe FC Community Foundation has received a £216,000 grant through the National Lottery Community Fund.
The fund will be invested into a brand new ‘Volunteer Project’, which aims to inspire and create change for 150 local people over the next three years.
The project has three strands: building connections, achieving potential, and delivering change.
This will be done through weekly sessions with group work and one-to-one support around building confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and teamwork. Some low-level physical activity will also take place to help people understand how this contributes to mental health.
Participants will improve their skills through informal training covering digital skills, literacy, numeracy, and personal goal setting, alongside pathways into accredited training with local partner institutions.
MFCCF CEO, Stuart Glover, said: “To be successful in attracting Reaching Communities funding, which is one of the most competitive programs, demonstrates the impact we are able to have on our community.
‘’We are confident this project will empower local people to take their first steps into volunteering, participating in bespoke wellbeing and personal development opportunities that inspire each with the skills and attributes to live their best lives.”
The charity say they will shortly be recruiting for someone to lead the project, and will announce further details in due course.
The foundation’s programmes include extensive work in schools; partnerships with local agencies, charities and organisations; support to government initiatives promoting health and well-being and sessions targeted at groups with special needs or from socially deprived areas.
They also work closely with the football club, to encourage engagement with the local community.
