This month’s Morecambe Pride has been handed a boost thanks to the awarding of £3,500 in grant funding.
Local charity LGBT Out In The Bay has been awarded the sum by Morecambe Town Council in support of the event, which takes place on May 30.
This year’s Pride event takes the theme ‘Bring Me Sunshine’, in a nod to acclaimed Morecambe-born comedian Eric Morecambe, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year.
The event will begin at 11am with a ‘Sunshine Parade’ along the length of Morecambe Promenade from the Town Hall to The Alhambra.
Inside there will be a full stage programme of live music, spoken word, dance, drag and community performances featuring both local talent and prominent LGBTQ+ performers, reflecting the diversity, creativity and joy of the community.
Alongside the entertainment there will be a vibrant indoor market of local groups, charities, independent traders, artists, and food vendors, as well as information and support stalls providing access to health and mental wellbeing services, housing advice, youth support, and local community groups.

Cllr Lee Bradbury, Chairperson of Morecambe Town Council’s Festivals, Sponsorships and Events Committee, said: ‘’Pride remains an important moment to recognise the experiences of LGBTQ+ people while bringing together residents, local businesses and community groups for a day of celebration, entertainment and connection which is open to all.’
Robert Mee, founder and CEO of LGBT Out In The Bay, said, ‘We’re proud to bring Pride to Morecambe in a way that reflects the town’s warmth and character.
‘’This event is about creating a space where people can come together, feel welcome, and access support if they need it, while also celebrating the talent and spirit of our local community.’
