Community groups in the West End of Morecambe have been invited to apply for a share of cash to boost projects in the area.
Pride in Place West End Morecambe are inviting applications for grants of up to £15,000 from the 'Early Wins' scheme, with a total pot of £260,000 available.
Grant applications opened on September 1 and groups can apply HERE.
The Pride in Place project in the West End is a government funded scheme to inject millions into the area over the next decade.
The £20m boost over 10 years was announced in September 2025 as part of the Government’s Pride in Place (Plan for Neighbourhoods) programme.
Nationwide funding will be invested in more than 330 of the UK's most overlooked communities.
Locally, the money is being administered by a board made up of local people, chaired by Helen Bingley OBE, former High Sheriff of Lancashire.
How the money is spent is determined by local residents and businesses.
Pride in Place ‘Early Wins’, the first round of the programme, focusses on fast, visible improvements to the West End that build trust and community engagement, and which can be delivered within six months. The money has to be allocated by March 2027.
Applicants need to be an organised group and have a bank account, and has to be either an unregistered voluntary or community organisation, constituted group or sports club, registered charity, not-for-profit company, Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), faith based group or Community Interest Company (CIC).
The themes for this round were identified from over 500 responses to a West End Community Voice Survey.
Applicants' projects should align with one or more of these - Environment - tidier streets, fewer boarded-up shops, better public spaces/parks; Safety and security - Less crime and anti-social behaviour, feeling safer in public spaces; Housing - Warmer, safer homes, help with housing costs, tackling empty or run-down properties; Work/jobs and skills - Help getting into work, training, and support for local people and businesses; Community power - Local people having more say and control over decisions and services in their area; Health and wellbeing - Better access to health services (physical and mental), places to keep active, art and culture, local history, supporting people and families; Education/opportunity for young people - Support for children, including childcare and learning; Community cohesion - Bringing different people and groups together, reducing tension or isolation; Transport - Improving local transport in the West End.
