Plans have gone in to convert a disused Lancaster school house into a nursery.
A change of use planning application has been sent to Lancaster City Council to refurbish the building for the nearby Quernmore C of E VC Primary School on Postern Gate Road.
The building, built in the 1850s, was previously used as a residential property, but it has been vacant for some time.
A report submitted with the proposals says: "The works will be entirely contained within the confines of the Old School House.
"The works will not affect the externals of the building and therefore the (nearby) Grade II listed building (St Peter's Church). The school building is largely concealed by greenery.
"Quernmore VC Primary School aims to provide a broad, balanced and creative curriculum for children aged below the age of two- 11. The school has 97 pupils and received a ‘good’ rating in their latest Ofsted report (2024)."
The report also assesses that the development would have "a neutral impact on the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a neutral impact on the adjacent Grade II listed Church, given that the nature of the works and they are internal and will support the enhanced operations of the school"
"It is therefore considered that the development complies with the relevant national planning policies, and for that reason, full planning consent should be granted."
Lancaster City Council will decide whether to grant planning permission, in due course.
The plans are publicly available to view in the planning section of the council website lancaster.gov.uk, reference 26/00618/FUL.
