Plans to bring back a Visitor Information Centre to Morecambe are "being worked on", an MBI councillor has said.
Councillor Geoff Knight said his party was still looking at options for opening a new centre in the town to replace the VIC in The Platform which closed earlier this month.
Councillor Knight, of the Morecambe Bay Independents (MBIs), was speaking at a meeting of Morecambe Town Council on Thursday night.
He said tourist information in Morecambe "fell into a complete black hole" when the centre shut on September 9.
Lancaster City Council ran the VIC in Morecambe and also at The Storey in Lancaster.
Both centres were shut down as part of a programme of budget cuts.
Earlier this month, the city council announced plans to replace the VICs with a £294,000 scheme to modernise tourist information in the district.
They said government money would be spent on a new and improved destination website, along with digital screens and interactive touch screen kiosks in locations across the district.
But at Thursday's meeting, Morecambe town councillors said they wanted dates and details on exactly what Lancaster City Council's plans entail.
It also remains possible that Morecambe Town Council could decide to provide their own tourism information service in future.
Councillor Jim Pilling, a Liberal Democrat (pictured below), said at the meeting: "The decision to close the (VICs) when Morecambe is on the up and Eden is coming is absolutely ridiculous."
Councillor Pilling then said to Councillor Knight: "Your party (the MBIs) promised to run a volunteer (VIC). I haven't heard anything about that since the election (in May)."
The MBIs said in a statement in January: "If necessary, the Morecambe Bay Independents will run a Visitor Information Centre ourselves, as we think it is crucial to the expanding tourism offer in Morecambe and district, and again this does not need to be at a cost to the council tax payer."
Councillor Knight, (pictured below), who was on Lancaster City Council until the May elections, said: "Signing a long-term lease on the Visitor Information Centre at The Platform was not a viable option.
"We wanted a new premises, somewhere else in Morecambe. We are currently working on that. It could be run by volunteers. It could be run by a CIC (Community Interest Company)."
Councillor Knight said the MBIs would come back to Morecambe Town Council with a proposal.
"We need to know what Lancaster City Council is doing," said Councillor Knight.
"It needs addressing before winter. It's not setting a very good example."
Councillor Pilling said all parties should be involved in the plans, and there were renewed calls for a town council steering group - originally agreed in February - to be set up to look at tourism information in the town.
Town councillors then voted unanimously to ask Lancaster City Council for a "detailed explanation/presentation of what their new 'digital screen service' involves and for the anticipated delivery dates in Morecambe".
After the meeting, Beyond Radio asked the city council if there was an update on when the digital visitor information service would be up and running.
A council spokesperson said there was no update at the moment, but said that up-to-date tourism information is available at www.visitlancaster.org.uk or www.exploremorecambebay.org.uk
Lancaster City Council is also calling for 'expressions of interest' from potential future operators of The Platform arts and concert venue - which is housed in the same former railway station building where Morecambe VIC used to be.
The council has confirmed it will stop running the venue from March 2024, again due to budget cuts, so is looking for somebody else to take on the lease.
Lancaster City Council is our area's District Council and is entirely separate to Morecambe Town Council - which is a smaller parish council - although some councillors sit on both.
