Runners to take on 24-hour Morecambe Promenade relay inspired by friend's brain tumour battle

Let's Run Morecambe will team up with Lancaster Runners for the relay challenge

Running groups from Morecambe and Lancaster are set to take on a 24-hour relay challenge for a very good cause.

Let's Run Morecambe and the Lancaster Runners will run a relay in teams of two for 24 hours, for the Brain Tumour Charity.

They are aiming to cover 1000km, as this number represents the amount of people diagnosed with a brain tumour each month.

The aim is to raise £3000 and the group is just over halfway there, with £1580 donated so far.

It says: "Join us as we embark on an inspiring journey during the 'Endure Morecambe' 24 hour Promenade Relay, taking place from 4pm on Saturday, May 24 to 4pm on Sunday, May 25.

"Our running club, Let's Run Morecambe, will team up with Lancaster Runners to ensure that there are always a minimum of two dedicated runners on the promenade throughout this entire event.

"We will carry a baton to hand over at each leg of our relay, symbolising our commitment and unity for this important cause.

"Our start and finish line will be located near the Midland Hotel, and we warmly invite you to come along and cheer us on! Your support means the world to us, whether it's through your presence or by making a donation online.

"We are raising funds for The Brain Tumour Charity in honor of our good friend.

"'Rachel' was diagnosed with GBM 4 (a Glioblastoma brain tumour) in 2021. Her life changed overnight. After undergoing a craniotomy and 12 months of chemotherapy, the tumour started to grow again in March 2024. She's now back on chemotherapy indefinitely and is remaining positive living her life as well as she can.

"The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading organisation dedicated to brain tumours and is committed to saving and improving lives.

"They are at the forefront of research, striving to find new treatments while providing essential support for those affected by brain tumours. Their work is vital because when someone you love receives a brain tumour diagnosis, every moment counts. They're set on driving urgent change, funding life extending research that Rachel has been directly involved in and benefited from.

"As we run through the night, we aim to raise awareness and generate funding that will keep this crucial research going. We kindly ask you to consider donating anything you can; every little bit helps us move closer to a brighter future for everyone living with a brain tumour. Together, we can make a difference!"

Let's Run Morecambe meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening to run on the Promenade.
