No trains will run between Preston and Lancaster for over a week due to major rail engineering works.
Operator Avanti West Coast said that starting on Saturday (April 11) and until April 20, trains will divert onto the Settle-Carlisle line, trains will run between Oxenholme to Carlisle, and bus replacement services will also be in place.
Work includes signalling and track upgrades between Preston and Oxenholme, and overhead line equipment improvements between Preston, Lancaster and Fylde.
The works are part of £400m upgrades to the West Coast Main Line between London and Scotland - the biggest upgrade to its northern section in more than 50 years.
Avanti West Coast said the improvements "will create a more reliable and resilient railway for passengers".
The company also announced that the Settle-Carlisle line will once again be opened to passengers from April 11 to 20, while works take place.
The West Coast Main Line carries almost 2,000 passenger trains and 15,000 tonnes of goods every day, but Network Rail said much of its infrastructure is struggling to meet modern demand.
They said that with passenger numbers expected to double by 2050, this work is about making sure the railway can keep pace with the future.
"The West Coast Main Line is one of Britain's most important railway lines," said Julien Dehornoy, North West & Central Deputy Regional Managing Director at Network Rail.
"We're investing in it to ensure a more reliable, resilient railway that communities and businesses can depend on for decades to come.
"Passengers should be aware that this work will mean some changes to journeys and should plan their trips ahead of time."
Passengers travelling throughout April are advised to check the latest information before setting off. Journey details can be found with their train operator or the National Rail website.
