A woman was attacked during an attempted robbery on the canal towpath at Lancaster.
The woman, in her 40s, suffered minor injuries after she was approached from behind by a man while walking on the tow path close to Coniston Road, then hit on the back of the neck.
The man tried to take her bag and then made off towards Mardale Road empty-handed.
Police were called to the incident at around 6.40am today (Friday, August 19).
The suspect is described as white, of medium build, wearing a dark top, dark, baggy trousers, light socks and light trainers. He was clean shaven and possibly had acne scars.
Detectives are appealing for information following the incident.
Det Sgt Hana Alayli-Moore, of Lancaster CID, said: “This attempted robbery has left the victim very shaken and we need to find the man responsible.
“Did you see anyone matching the man described, or anyone acting unusually in the area around the time of the offence?
“If you have any CCTV or can assist our enquiries, please come forward.”
