The RNLI are pleased to announce Vicky Auld as Morecambe Water Safety Officer. Vicky will oversee the local Water Safety Team helping to reduce the number of people getting into difficulty in the water.
The RNLI hope to achieve this through informing a wide variety of water and coastal edge users of the local dangers, providing them with guidance to help keep them safe when on, in or by the water. Vicky comes with a wealth of nautical experience with various qualifications gained through the RYA and also BAS Antarctic boating courses. She has also been Base Commander of various Antarctic Research Stations where scientists study marine biology and climate change. In her spare time she is a keen water sports enthusiast partaking in open water swimming and snorkelling, sailing and sea kayaking.
Vicky said “I have huge admiration for the selfless crews that attend each call out, and I hope that I can contribute as part of the local Water Safety team towards helping to reduce the number of people in distress in the water. I feel privileged to be able to volunteer in the WSO role for the RNLI Morecambe Bay.”
Morecambe RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Steve Wilson said “I'm delighted Vicky is joining Morecambe RNLI as our Water Safety Officer. The role is pivotal in reducing the number of incidents we respond to across the Bay and the River Lune. Vicky brings a great deal of experience to the role and like all the crew in Morecambe is selflessly volunteering to help keep our coastline safe.”
