The 2023 Carnforth Carnival won’t include a parade, due to rising costs and staffing difficulties.
Organisers of the popular event say that following a recent committee meeting, a decision has been made not to have the parade, which costs more than £3,000 to stage, as well requiring numerous volunteers on the day to marshal the procession, which they are short of.
They added that they wished to concentrate their efforts on the entertainment side of the event instead, and asked people to keep an eye out for announcements as to what was in store, on the field at the rear of Carnforth High School.
The event is planned for Saturday, July 1.
Carnforth Carnival returned last summer, following a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, after originally being revived back in 2015, following a twenty year absence.
Carnforth Carnival was first held in 1963 at Carnforth Cricket Club, and through the 1970s and 80s, had a string of famous faces leading the parade of marching bands and floats through the streets.
They included Emmerdale Farm star Stan Richards, who appeared in his character Seth Armstrong's gamekeeper's hat at the 1988 carnival, its silver jubilee. Crossroads actor Paul Henry, who played handyman Benny Hawkins, was the VIP in 1986.
More recently, in 2019 the event welcomed Danny Miller and Adam Thomas from Emmerdale.
