The official EU Ambassador to the UK was in Lancaster last week.
João Vale de Almeida came to Lancaster to visit the Health Innovation Campus at Lancaster University – funded in partnership with the European Regional Development Fund and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal.
The centre acts as a focal point, allowing researchers, healthcare professionals, businesses, local authorities and policy-makers, to focus on a systems approach to improving health.
He chatted with staff and students, and met with Vice Chancellor, Andy Schofield to discuss links and cooperation in science, research and higher education.
‘’The facility (at Lancaster University) is a wonderful space for health-related businesses, students, researchers and the local community to engage and exchange ideas & launch new projects,’’ The Ambassador said.
Later in the visit he enjoyed tea with MP, Cat Smith, at Lancaster Castle.

‘’It was also a pleasure to meet local MP Cat Smith for a Lancaster Blend tea at the castle,’’ he added.
‘’As the European Year Of Youth unfolds, we discussed youth policy topics and Lancaster/EU relations.
‘’It was a pleasure to host Ambassador Joao Vale De Almeida at Lancaster Castle on Friday,’’ said Cat Smith.
‘’We enjoyed a chat over a lovely cup of Lancaster Blend Tea from the famous Atkinsons Tea and Coffee Shop, which first opened in the city in 1836.
‘’The Ambassador and I had some interesting discussions about youth policy and our city’s future relationship with Europe.’’
