A well-known local holiday park business is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
Holgates was founded in 1956 when Billy and Miriam Holgate signed a lease for an area of coastal farmland between Silverdale and Arnside.
Today the firm is still owned and operated by the Holgate family, and three generations remain actively involved in running the sites.
Now operating nine parks across Lancashire and Cumbria, Holgates has grown into a major local employer with over 200 staff.
“Family is at the heart of everything we do," said Michael Holgate, the company’s current Managing Director.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without our strong family bond and I have so many great memories of seeing families having fun at our parks over the past 70 years.
“Holgates is a multi-generational business in every sense, with customers returning year after year and a workforce that spans generations too.
“I’m so proud that the fourth generation of our family – my sons James and Thomas – are now working for the business.”
From tranquil woodland walks to bowling alleys and swimming pools, the offer at Holgates has grown over the decades, resulting in the business winning multiple regional and national awards.
“Holgates is still very much expanding and it’s so important for us to continuing offering the facilities that modern families need to have a great holiday," said Michael.
Holgates will celebrate its anniversary with a number of special events planned throughout the year.
