You can have your say on plans for a major redevelopment of Lancaster City Museum.
The Lancaster City Museums Service is asking for people's views on the museum to help them raise the funding they need for the planned upgrade of the museum in Market Square.
A £6m project is being mooted to overhaul the City Museum in time for the 250th anniversary of the building in 2033.
"We want your input on a proposed redevelopment of Lancaster City Museum and the King's Own Regimental Museum," said a post on the Lancaster City Museums Facebook page.
"To get the funding we need, we have to prove that people are interested.
"So whether you're a visitor or a local resident, or just someone who loves museums and historic buildings, PLEASE fill in this short survey.
"Your voice really matters. Even if you don't have strong opinions on the plans, completing the survey will help to make this project possible."
In October 2025, Lancaster City Council revealed they had received a major funding boost of £40,500 to improve their museums by "enhancing the visitor experience and increasing activities to benefit the local community".
The cash injection from the Museums Renewal Fund, they said, would support work at the museums, which are home to rare local artefacts dating back as far back at the Stone Age, as well as the local regiment’s history dating back to 1680.
As well as funding events and activities, they said a key focus would be the continued refurbishment of the Cottage Museum, restoring it to its historical roots as a 1740s shop, offering an immersive glimpse into mid-18th-century life and commerce.
The grant, they said, would also support improved promotion of the City Museums as well as helping them with business planning for a redevelopment of the Lancaster City Museum.
Councillor Sam Riches, Lancaster City Council member with responsibility for Museums, said at the time: “I am also very pleased to announce that the National Lottery Heritage Fund have invited us to submit a Development Phase application for funding that will hopefully eventually lead to a £6million redevelopment project for the City Museum, helping secure the future resilience of Lancaster’s museums.”
The Lancaster City Museums comprises The Lancaster City Museum, The Cottage Museum and The Kings Own Regiment Museum.
