Two friends from the Carnforth area are set to embark on a journey of a lifetime visiting 14 countries in a 22 year old car.
Jane Hope and George Wren will set off from the Longlands Hotel on Tuesday (August 25) in their 2004 Renault Clio, called Theo, on the Top to Tip Road Trip which they have described as "a rather ridiculous adventure".
They will attempt to drive it from the northernmost point of Europe at Cape Nordkapp, Norway, all the way down to Punta de Tarifa in southern Spain — before eventually making their way back to the UK.
Along the way they will be travelling 8,000 miles through at least 14 European countries, while camping, wild camping, taking on challenges and documenting the whole thing on social media.
Their donation page says: "We’re going to be documenting the highs, the lows, the breakdowns (hopefully not too many), and everything in between."
Jane and George will be raising money for two charities close to their hearts: YoungMinds, supporting children and young people’s mental health, and Space for the Wild, supporting wildlife and conservation.
"We’ve already raised money through local fundraising events and donations, and we’ll be documenting the journey daily — including whatever inevitably goes wrong with our £900 Clio!" said Jane.
"We’re definitely not professional adventurers — just two people with an old car, one with zero travelling experience and both with zero mechanical knowledge with far too much enthusiasm and absolutely no idea what could possibly go wrong!"
Jane has travelled to more than 35 countries, been backpacking around South East Asia and has been to every continent, while George has no travelling experience whatsoever!
Their journey begins on Tuesday with a drive over to Hull and the ferry to Rotterdam.
The friends have raised more than £2500 to date.
