Children as young as 10-years-old had to be dealt with by police in Lancaster as officers responded to a number of incidents in the city centre over the weekend.
Lancaster Area Police officers were called to a number of incidents involving young people, including anti-social behaviour, public order offences, and assaults, with a spokesperson saying that included children as young as 10.
Many of these incidents have involved young people who have been consuming alcohol, with police now asking parents, guardians, and responsible adults to help them address a recent increase in anti-social behaviour across the Lancaster city centre area.
PCSO Jake Adams said: ‘’These incidents have had a significant impact on local businesses, residents, and visitors, and will not be tolerated.
‘’We are particularly concerned about reports of youths purchasing alcohol themselves or being supplied alcohol by adults. It is an offence to buy alcohol on behalf of someone under the age of 18, and those found doing so will face police action.
‘’We are asking all parents and carers to have conversations with their children about their behaviour, where they are spending their time, and who they are associating with.
‘’Knowing where your children are, who they are with, and what they are doing can play a vital role in keeping them safe and preventing them from becoming involved in criminal or anti-social behaviour.
‘’We also urge adults not to purchase alcohol for underage individuals. What may seem like a harmless favour can quickly contribute to disorder, violence, and serious consequences for those involved.
‘’We will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols and take positive action against those responsible for anti-social behaviour, including those who facilitate the alcohol consumption. Tackling these issues requires support from the whole community, starting at home!
‘’Together, we can help make our city centre a safer place for everyone.’’
