Excitement is building ahead of a top sporting event coming to Lancaster next month.
On Sunday July 16 Williamson Park is once again the venue for the Lancaster Grand Prix, which will see some of the country’s best cyclists tackle a gruelling route through the beautiful countryside of the Forest of Bowland.
Part of British Cycling’s National Road Series, the event will again also feature a women’s race.
Race HQ will be at the Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, and there will be a neutralise ride out to the official start/finish location within Williamson Park.
The men's event will start at 9am from Williamson Park and be 10 laps of a 14.5Km circuit making a total distance of 152Km including neutralised roll out. There will be a total of 2800m of climbing during the race.
Women's event will start at 2:45pm from Williamson Park and be 6 laps of a 14.5Km circuit making a total distance of 94Km including neutralised roll out. There will be a total of 1700m of climbing during the race.
A big screen in Williamson Park will live stream the whole event and there will also be entertainment throughout the day.
The race organisers have put the event together in association with British Cycling, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council.
To allow the race to take place safely there will be a rolling road closure along the route, controlled by a professional traffic management company as well as a comprehensive police and NEG moto escort for the race convoy.
Both car parks at Williamson Park will also be closed except for vehicles directly involved in the event.
Entry closes this Sunday, June 25.
