An eight-year-old boy from Lancaster has won a competition to create a healthy recipe as part of the launch of a county-wide school games.
Antony Radev won for his Chicken on the Go, which he said "is a really good source of protein and the broccoli within it is good for your eyesight".
The competition was held to help launch the 2024/25 SPAR Lancashire School Games, as children across the county were encouraged to think about how a good diet can combine with physical activity for healthier lifestyles.
Antony, a pupil at Willow Lane Primary School in Lancaster, was the winner for the Coastal Lancashire cluster and was presented with his prize of Buddy Oliver’s cookbook outside the SPAR shop in Willow Lane.
The Games were launched at the SPAR Distribution Centre at Bowland View in Preston, as 50 children from across Lancashire attended.
Nathan Maguire, Team GB Paralympian and Panathlon Ambassador, was the special guest speaker at the launch.
Run by Active Lancashire and the School Games Organiser Network, the 2023-24 SPAR Lancashire School Games engaged 26,000 children in sport and activities across the county through 27 feature events and competitions.
The Games include intra-school activities, inter-schools competitions and school games festivals.
Active Lancashire was founded in 2000 and aims to encourage Lancashire residents to engage in sport and physical activity and lead a happy, healthy, more prosperous life.
