A TV chef from Lancaster will receive an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Lancashire next week.
Michelin starred Lisa Goodwin-Allen, Chef Patron Director of Northcote will take to the University of Lancashire’s graduation stage to receive the Honorary Award at a ceremony at the Tom Finney Centre in Preston, where across the week around 4,500 students will don their academic caps and gowns.
Lisa, who will be honoured on Friday, July 10, is being recognised for the significant contribution she has made to British cuisine and the hospitality sector.
The Michelin starred chef leads the culinary team at Northcote and her exceptional skill and remarkable vision has been recognised with numerous industry awards. The proud Lancastrian has cooked for royalty, and she regularly appears on national TV cookery shows including MasterChef: The Professionals, Saturday Kitchen, and James Martin’s Saturday Morning.
Lisa, who went to Carnforth High School, became interested in cookery at school, then studied at Lancaster and Morecambe College
After graduating, she worked in several prestigious restaurants, including the two Michelin-starred Le Champignon Sauvage in Gloucester, before arriving at Northcote.
After joining Northcote aged 20, became chef de partie after a year, junior sous chef the following year then at the age of 23 was named head chef, one of the youngest chefs to take on the role in a Michelin starred kitchen at the time.
Since then she has helped to maintain the restaurant’s Michelin Star which it has held continuously since 1996.
Lisa is also director of The Game Bird and American Bar at The Stafford in London, is well known for her charity work and has won numerous awards.
Her father, the late Ken Allen, was well known for his auto wreckers yard at White Lund.
