A 67-year-old Lancaster cyclist is setting off on a charity ride to raise funds for a beach wheelchair in memory of a friend.
Gillian Sheath will cycle from Fleetwood to Redcar and back, starting today (June 2).
This is Gillian's seventh charity cycle ride in seven years, and she has raised more than £18,000 for various good causes during that time.
This year the retired occupational therapist is hoping to raise enough money to buy a beach wheelchair to be housed at Fleetwood.
"Normal wheelchairs cannot negotiate sand as their wheels are too narrow," said Gillian.
"Beach wheelchairs enable anyone to access the beach and have a paddle.
"I'd really appreciate any support, sponsorship to donations via Just Giving."
Gillian's fundraising page says: "Last year our friend Lisa died.
"One of the activities that she loved was to get on to the beach at Fleetwood, Lancs.
"Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs provides a free loan to any one who wants to access the sand and sea, who otherwise would not be able to.
"My cycle ride starts from their base in Fleetwood on June 2, 2026 at 2pm and takes me to Redcar beach, on June 5, near to where Lisa grew up. I will be back via my bike to Fleetwood on June 10.
"Lisa also enjoyed trips to beaches across the country. Redcar Cleveland Council are supporting this venture too.
"Please sponsor me and donate generously if you can to buy a beach wheelchair in memory of Lisa and her life well lived."
You can donate HERE. At time of writing, more than £2600 had been raised.
