LISTEN: Lancaster men's mental health champion speaks out during awareness month

Jake Davidson

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month and a Lancaster man has spoken to Beyond Radio about how he's trying to create positive change.

Jake Davidson visited the studio to talk about a number of initiatives to help men with their mental health, run by his group L.A.D.S (Listening and Destroying Stigma).

These include regular spin classes at 3-1-5 health club, boxing training with M.A.D boxing in Morecambe, Sober and Social nights, support for Armed Forces veterans and a partnership with local businesses.

L.A.D.S have also been raising money to support the family of Henry Shields, a 23-year-old Lancaster University student who died after a battle with mental health.

Almost £3000 has been raised to date at the Go Fund Me page, and Jake is hoping to fund two memorial benches and organise a community day in Lancaster in Henry's memory.

L.A.D.S aims to provide support and guidance to men who may otherwise be hesitant to address their mental health concerns.

The group advocates for adopting healthier lifestyles, emphasising dietary improvements and physical fitness, with the aim of encouraging increased social engagement and participation in activities that challenge individuals to step out of their comfort zones.

More details on L.A.D.S can be found at their Facebook group HERE.
