Long-serving Lancaster chippy boss set for third half marathon in six months for hospice

A Lancaster fish and chip shop owner is gearing up for his third half marathon of the year to raise funds for our local hospice.

Nigel Hodgson of Hodgson's Chippy completed the Aintree Half Marathon earlier this month in support of St John's Hospice, and now moves on to the Manchester Half Marathon in October.

Nigel also ran the AJ Bell Great Manchester Half Marathon in May,

"It was certainly a warm one out there but what a great event and another 13.1 miles in the bag!" said Nigel, posting on the Hodgson's Chippy page after the Aintree Half Marathon in soaring temperatures on July 12.

"Two down, one to go… Manchester in October!

"Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me so far — it really does mean a lot.

"If you’d like to support me and St John’s Hospice, any donation would be hugely appreciated. Thank you."

St John's Hospice in Lancaster provides care to patients with life limiting conditions throughout the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay area.

Nigel and his wife Linda recently celebrated 28 years of owning their popular fish and chip shop on Prospect Street.

"28 years ago today, we bought the chip shop on Prospect Street and transformed it into Hodgson’s Chippy," said a post on the shop's Facebook page on July 1.

"Without doubt, it was the biggest and best decision of our lives.

"We can honestly say we’ve loved every minute of the journey.

"A huge thank you to our fantastic team and our wonderful customers for your loyalty and support over the years. We couldn’t have done it without you."
