A Lancaster police initiative aims to support safety within the night time economy and tackle potential issues in the run up to Christmas.
Home-Safe will aim to reduce the number of people who through drink become vulnerable and then can be a victim of a crime, due to them being under the influence, or separated from their friends.
Staff in Lancaster bars and clubs are being encouraged to refuse alcohol sales to people who are drunk, while the initiative also involves helping people in such a vulnerable position to a place of safety. The Sugarhouse is one place taking part, offering support and the ability to contact friends or family members, rather than them ending up with the police or in A&E.
‘’We’ll be looking out for people who may have over indulged and left themselves vulnerable or in a difficult position,’’ DI Adie Knowles from Lancaster CID told Beyond Radio.
‘’The message is keep yourself safe at this time of year. Of course, go out, have a good time, there’s nothing wrong with that, but keep in mind who is going to take you home and just how you are going to get home.’’
A similar operation, called ‘Safer Nights’, is being deployed in Morecambe.
