Owners of a popular Heysham coffee shop and wine bar have applied for permission for a new outdoor seating area with bar and events space.
A planning application has gone into Lancaster City Council to build a rear extension, side porch and a detached outbuilding for bar and events space and associated outdoor seating at The Dispensary at 408 Heysham Road.
A statement submitted with the plans says: "The proposals aim to strengthen and expand the offering from The Dispensary whilst making a use of the underused rear yard."
The Dispensary, run by Martin and Nicola Kirby, opened in October 2023.
The couple also took over the former Embargo craft ale bar on Marine Road Central in Morecambe last year, renaming it The Pestle & Mortar.
The statement says: "The applicants seek to expand the successful bar and café by extending to the rear of the property to provide improved toilet provision and kitchen space.
"This would move the existing kitchen area into this to provide increased storage/cellar provision by the bar to ease issues with drink supply and storage.
"This proposal also seeks use of the rear garden by customers as a drinking and dining area, construction of a detached bar and events space building within the rear yard.
"The proposals are for a simple single storey extension with a rendered finish and dark grey flat roof.
"The outbuilding will be a composite weatherboarded monopitched detached outbuilding that would be well insulated with glazing for natural light..
"There would be a close boarded timber acoustic fence to the perimeter of the yard as required by the acoustic survey.
"Access to frontage would be unchanged. The works would allow for an accessible WC to the extension and level access to the rear of the building and through to the new external seating area.
"The extension will also create improved toilet provision and improve the practical use of the storage and kitchen."
The plans are available to see publicly in the planning section at the Lancaster City Council website lancaster.gov.uk, reference number 26/00608/FUL.
The council will make a decision on planning permission in due course.
