Police have issued advice to residents after a spate of burglaries in a residential area of Lancaster during the warm temperatures.
Detective Inspector Adie Knowles of Lancaster Police spoke out about a series of sneak-in burglaries of homes in the Scotforth Road area over the past few weeks.
Det Insp Knowles, speaking on his regular 'Beyond the Beat' segment on Beyond Radio on Tuesday, said there had been several similar incidents including on June 29 at around 4.30pm on Adelphi Street, in the early hours to afternoon of July 2 on Pickard Street and Ash Grove (which police believe may be linked), overnight on July 8 on Scotforth Road, overnight on July 8/9 on Graham Street, and in the late hours of July 11 on Chatsworth Road.
"They are all the same thing...back doors insecure, they sneak through windows, taking valuables," he said.
"We've had a few where they've taken TVs and small gaming devices, which is a bit unusual.
"The sun comes out, people leave windows and doors open understandably, which unfortunately leads to the opportunist burglar taking people's valuables.
"If you do reside in that area, around Scotforth Road in Lancaster, and you see anybody around the back alleys, skulking around and you think it's a bit suspicious, and you've got CCTV footage, please let us know.
"The main thing is, in that area, if you can keep your doors locked, it will make life a lot easier to prevent these, while the (police) burglary team try to detect the ones that have been reported to us.
"The more we know about people acting suspicious in that area, please let us know."
You can contact police on 101 or call the confidential freephone Crimestoppers number on 0800 555111. If you see a crime in progress, dial 999.
