A motorcycle road racer from Bolton-le-Sands has died following a crash ahead of the TTs in the Isle of Man.
Alan Oversby, 68, lost his life in an incident during the 400cc Race at the pre-TT Classic Road Races on Sunday, taking place before the start of the annual TT motorcycle races on the island.
Southern 100 Road Races issued a statement following Mr Oversby's death.
"Southern 100 Road Races regrets to confirm that Alan Oversby, aged 68, from Bolton-le-Sands lost his life in an incident during the 400cc Race today at the Pre-TT Classic Road Races.
"The accident occurred on the approach to Ballakeighan, on the second lap of the race.
"Alan was an experienced Pre-TT Classic Road Races competitor, first competing in 2005 and taking his first win in 2006.
"In total, Alan took 16 wins including two today.
"Southern 100 Road Races extend their deepest sympathy to Alan’s wife Julie, family, team and friends."
Tributes have been paid to Alan on social media since the news of his tragic death.
One said: "Alan had delivered two masterful performances in the 500 and 350 classic races, underlining his reputation as one of the most talented and respected riders in the paddock.
"With 16 wins around the Billown circuit, Alan’s legacy as a true racer is undeniable. The sorrow of his passing today is felt deeply."
CMRC - Classic Racing Motorcycle Club, posted: "The CRMC is saddened to hear that long time member Alan Oversby passed away today after an incident the Pre TT Classic on the Billown Course.
"An experienced classic racer with a quiet and reserved way about him, Alan was a popular member of our paddock and he will be truly missed.
"The CRMC extend condolences to Alan’s family and friends."
