Warnings over fake bank notes being used in Morecambe

Bosses at Morecambe BID say they’ve received reports of suspected counterfeit bank notes being used in the town.

The Business Improvement District say following reports from some of their members, they’re urging businesses to take a few extra moments to check any cash payments, particularly higher denomination notes.

If you suspect a note is counterfeit, Record as much information as you can about the transaction and contact the police if appropriate.

A few other things to look out for include:

• Feel the raised print – as genuine notes have a distinctive texture.

• Check the see-through window and metallic hologram.

• Look for clear, sharp print and colours – blurred printing can be a warning sign.

• Ensure the hologram changes when the note is tilted.

• If you have a UV detector or note-checking pen, use it where appropriate.

A spokesperson for Morecambe BID added: ‘’If you’ve experienced any similar incidents, please let the BID team know so we can continue to keep local businesses informed.’’
